- Trace recorded table and column dependencies and locate producing-code pointers.
- Read available source code and inspect ingestion receipts where pointers exist.
- Sample underlying data and, when requested, assemble and retain an evidence receipt.

Trace the loan-period table used by the Data MCP example upstream by three hops.
The trace returned recorded dependencies on CMBS loan processing and interest-rate curve models, with producing-code pointers. It exposed the broader table lineage without establishing column-specific evidence for the balance.

Evidence is bounded by catalog lineage, available source code, ingestion pointers and the provisioned data plane. A missing pointer is a gap to report, not permission to invent a source trail.
Limits
- Table lineage does not automatically establish how an individual field was calculated.
- record_evidence and explain_provenance write retained receipts. Confirm storage and retention before using them.
- A source link or stored receipt does not by itself prove a financial claim.
